General Pest Control in El Paso

General pest control is for the steady trickle, not the one big emergency. Harvester ants mounding up in the gravel out front. Crickets by the hundred under the porch light in August. A black widow in the corner of the garage right where you reach for the hose. A couple of roaches every time you flip on the kitchen light at night.

One regular service covers most of that. The tech who comes out should spend more time figuring out where the bugs get in than spraying where you saw them, because in El Paso those are rarely the same place. If one pest is clearly the real problem, say so when you call. Scorpions, termites and bed bugs usually need their own plan, and scorpion control on rocky lots is a different job than a quarterly perimeter spray.

Everything out here follows water and shade

Desert bugs aren't picky about food. They're picky about water. That's why they end up around drip lines, swamp cooler pads, planters and the shady side of a block wall, and why a general service visit spends most of its time in those spots. Pull up any rock that sits against a damp wall in July and you'll see what we mean.

Most of what shows up under a general plan falls into a short list. You've probably met a few of these in your own garage.

  • Harvester ants clearing big bare circles in gravel yards
  • Pavement ants along sidewalk cracks and kitchen counters
  • Field crickets at the porch light and camel crickets in the laundry room
  • Black widows in weep holes, meter boxes and under patio chairs
  • Silverfish in older homes with damp bathrooms
  • Earwigs and pill bugs in irrigated flower beds

What the tech looks at on a Westside or Eastside lot

Most visits start outside. The technician checks door sweeps, the gap under the garage door, weep holes in the block wall, the spot where the A/C or cooler line goes through the stucco, and anywhere a pipe enters the house. Inside, they look under sinks, behind the water heater and in the laundry room, since that's where the water is.

Where you live changes the list. Homes on the mountain in Northeast El Paso near Hondo Pass see more harvester ants and black widows along the walls. On the Horizon City mesa, ants and crickets march in from open lots every time a new phase gets graded. Older homes around Album Park and Cielo Vista in East El Paso call more about roaches, spiders and silverfish coming through worn seals and old plumbing.

Expect the tech to treat the outside perimeter and the trouble spots inside, then hand you a short list of gaps to seal. Plenty of El Paso homeowners go on a recurring plan, every other month or quarterly, timed so a visit lands before the spring warm-up and another before the monsoon. Price depends on the size of the home and yard, what you're seeing and how often they come back, and the company quotes it to you directly.

Store sprays, porch lights and other things that backfire

A can from the hardware store on Montana Ave. will kill the bugs you hit. It won't touch the nest under the slab or the egg cases in the wall, and spraying the kitchen can push German roaches deeper into the cabinets. If you've been spraying for a few weeks and still see bugs, that's your answer. Roaches that keep showing up indoors usually need a roach treatment built around baits, not more spray.

Some cheap fixes help any treatment last longer. Pull rock and mulch a few inches back from the foundation. Fix the drip emitter that's been leaking against the wall since spring. Swap white porch bulbs for yellow ones so the crickets, and the scorpions that eat them, aren't all gathering at your front door. Bites on the patio at dusk are their own job, and monsoon mosquito treatment goes after the shady spots where they rest. The desert pest guide goes through the yard habits pest by pest.

Questions We Get

Will one visit take care of it?

Sometimes. More often it takes a few visits to break the cycle, especially in summer when new bugs keep hatching. The tech will tell you what they'd recommend.

Does a general plan cover scorpions and termites?

Usually not completely. Scorpions often need extra sealing and treatment, and termites need their own inspection. Tell us what you're seeing when you call.

Is it safe for my kids and dog?

Ask the company what they use and how long to keep everyone off treated areas. Licensed techs follow the label and can answer that on the spot.
